I am sorta an emo kid...what does that mean exactly? Well emo (short for "emotional") is a genre of music which stems from PUNK music...today punk is used to describe many things, but originally, the two offshoots of punk music were hardcore (be tough, don't cry) and emo (be emotional, cry a lot)...today much music is considered emo when, in reality it is pop-punk or emo mixed with rock n roll or punk...but ah labels are stupid...emo is good and that's all we need to know! :o) So...being emo tends to mean that you are emotional and express feelings...I write lots of emo poetry and song lyrics...

the general fashion for emokids usually consists of:
*tight polo shirts (usually striped)
*cargo pants/very tight jeans
*anything corduroy
*vintage clothing circa 1970-1985
*flip flops or bowling shoes, sometimes suede boots
*black framed glasses
*oldschool vans (or any other popular yet vintage shoe)
*cuffed jeans
*thrifted t-shirt that would fit your 8 year old brother (usually with the name of a summercamp, elementary school, superhero or club on the front)
*wooden beaded necklaces, or plastic jewelry
*converse Chuck Taylors in every color
*plaid or striped button down shirts
*belts that are way too big
*sweater-vests
*any other kind of vest
*"emo jackets" usually with stripes, rainbows, old-school adidas, or a company name on the front
*boyscout shirts/janitor shirts
*striped socks
*mesh hats with a product name on the front
*anything with faux lambswool
*large amounts of jewelry, or none at all
*things that make no sense

Emo Kids...
*write poetry
*cry alot
*listen to emo music (anything slow, whiney, acoustic, depressing, ect.)
*have shaggy, uncut hair (guys)
*have straight, short bangs (girls)
*if worn back, wear their hair in low ponytails (girls)
*part their hair on the side
*are usually brunette (no such thing as a blonde emo..unless their special)
*drive un-cool cars
*aren't popular...on purpose
*acts calm, like nothing in the world is exciting enough for them
*has some suppressed feelings of lament
*never take depression pills
*are in some cases, vegetarians
*are hopeless romantics
*are passive
*are usually artsy (musically, literature-wise, ect.)
*are over-sensitive
*can write a poem or song about just about anything
*get heartbroken alot
*are straight-edge (meaning good, clean kids...no drugs, alcohol, cussing, ect.)
*care about nothing, really, especially not themselves
Acceptable Emo Bands...
The Get Up Kids, Further Seems Forever, Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional, Mineral, Saves the Day, Beck (Album: Seachange), Juliana Theory, Thursday, Orchestra of November, Hey Mercedes, The White Stripes (if you dare to call them emo), Jam Bands, anything Local, Underground or Unsigned that sounds emo....underground is very cool in the Emo Scene. Those were just a few examples of bands, there are many many more. Basically, stay away from the mainstream unless it is very worthy. (example: beck, dashboard, JEW, ect.)
